www.minedu.fi is the website of the Ministry of Education and Culture of Finland, which provides information on the activities and duties of the Ministry in Finnish, Swedish and English. Some information can also be found in other languages.
The contents are continuously amended and updated.
Structure of the website
The website consists of sections, which have been grouped in the navigation into
Links to the latest press releases, publications and speeches as well as the archives and the search function can be found on the right side of the main page and on the main pages of the subsections. Seminars and events are collated in the calendar of events. Moreover, the main page presents information on current affairs.
Each page has two or three columns. On the left-hand side, there is the menu, in the middle the main content and the right-hand column may contain links and additional information.
The More information links on the right-hand column take you to additional information on the subject matter and Related topics links to material elsewhere on the Ministry of Education and Culture website. Links contain links to websites and material provided by other information producers, and they will open in a new browser window.
How to use the website
The link path on top of the page shows the user�s position on the website.
The website can be searched either by browsing subject areas or by using the keyword search (quick search), advanced search or publications, press releases or speech searches. The alphabetical directory lists the keywords on the website. By choosing a keyword you get a list of links to the pages with the keyword in question. The sitemap portrays the structure of the website on three levels with the main heading and sub-headings.
You can enlarge and shrink the text or view the content in text version with buttons on the top of each page.
At the bottom of each page, there is a Print link for printing the contents of the page without navigation bars. If you want to print the entire screenshot with navigation bars, use the print command of your Web browser. It is then recommended to use the landscape printing option.
You can order Ministry of Education and Culture press releases through the website. You can choose either to receive information about all press releases or just the ones in the subject area of your choice in your e-mail immediately after publication.
Liability for contents
Every effort is made to keep the information as up to date as possible but there may still be deficiencies or outdated information. The update and save date can be checked from the meta-information of the source code. The Ministry of Education and Culture will not be liable for costs or damage to the user caused by the use of its website.
The editor-in-chief of the website is Press Officer Jaana Luostarinen, who is also the editor-in-chief of the Etusivu online journal. The contents are provided by departments and units of the Ministry.
The contents of external websites linked to the Ministry of Education service are the liability of their producers. External links open in new browser windows.
Use of material and copyright
The Ministry of Education and Culture website is protected in accordance with the Copyright Act. Information on the website can be used without express permission but the source must always be acknowledged. Material may only be used in accordance with legislation and good practice

However, there may be limitations to the use of photographic material and the presentation or reuse of photographic material is prohibited without the permission of the copyright holder mentioned in the caption.

Technical information
The website is based on XHTML/CSS technology and functions best with Internet Explorer 5.5 or Mozillla/Firefox 1.0 or later versions.
The website includes a number of documents in pdf format, such as the Ministry publications. To read pdf files, you need a free Adobe Acrobat Reader, which can be downloaded from the Adobe website.
Development of the service and data collected
For the purposes of developing the website, information about its use is collected via a monitoring system based on a server log file. The information collected includes the number of visitors to the site, the most popular pages, the sites that led the visitors to the service and the most popular keywords.
The website uses cookies as follows:
- The cookie �JSESSIONID� is used for identifying the user session and does not include identifiable data. The cookie is removed when the browser is closed.
- The cookie �opmlayout� saves information about whether the user sees the text or normal version of the site. The cookie is removed when the browser is closed.
- The cookie �opmfontsize� saves information about the text size chosen by the user. The content of the cookie is saved for a year.
Development proposals can also be sent to a virtual civil servant on a feedback form.
