Support services and information management in research

The Ministry of Education and Culture promotes scientific research and develops supportive services by financing the acquisition of equipment and the development and maintenance of information networks and scientific computing.

Scientific computing and network services

CSC – IT Center for Science, a national expert organisation owned by the state of Finland and administered by the Ministry of Education and Culture, specialises in scientific computing and network services.

Research libraries

In Finland, there are over 200 research libraries – university, polytechnic and specialised libraries – which serve education and research.

The nucleus of research libraries is the academic library network composed of university libraries, the National Library of Finland attached to the University of Helsinki and the National Repository Library.

National Digital Library (NDL) project

The Finna search service is the first to bring together the collections of Finnish archives, libraries and museums. Finna provides direct access to some digital content and information about available material.
Finna is part of the Ministry of Education and Culture’s National Digital Library (NDL) project.
